  1. BEING AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT IN THE USA
1)Krishra thought that American education system was based on creativity and team work, which was what she desired. And Linxi chose the USA because in China it was very hard to take the major she wanted and she thought that America offered more opportunities to her.
2)The students thought that they didn’t have enough flexibility to choose their major. In the USA they had a lot of opportunities to add on their major.Furthermore,Krishra chose the USA due to its creative environment and the use of team work in education.
3)Linxi likes the idea of drying machine in the USA.She thinks that the USA is better than China in that respect. In China they have to hang the laundry outside. She adds that they drink coffee a lot. Also she claims that even in winter the Americans can wear shorts, which makes her astonished. And Arata finds their burping without being ashamed strange. As I said before in their country, education system is stricter and harder in their own countries and in the USA they can find more opportunities to develop themselves. It is more flexible about which majors you take when compared to other countries according to them.
4)It is about 30.000 $ on average in a year.However. according to Arata,it depends on which major you take or which school you go or where you stay.
5)Actually, Linxi had difficulty in communication, but in time she liked the USA.Moreover, as I said before, she just finds some of their habits strange.Krishra claimed that of course she had a culture shock, but it was quite normal.Arata was accustomed to be an international student thanks to his high school years, so in university he didn’t have much difficulty.Nevertheless, he also had some problems in adjusting to a new culture.
6)Yes,they have.According to the video, culture shock is a process of surprise, disorientation, exciety and confussion when somebody goes to a different country and meets a different culture.Of course, I also have been thinking of going to the USA for education.I think as a language student I have to develop my speaking and especially listening abilities and have to use language correctly. The best way to manage this is going to abroad.By going to the USA I can meet different cultures and broaden my viewpoint in addition to learning to use English perfectly.Of course, culture shock is inevitable.Because I will get into a completely different environment.Maybe I will be homesick there,I can find no friend or I may not be adjust to my school environment or education system in there. However hard it is,I think that the value of knowing other cultures and seeing other countries is priceless. Therefore,I strongly believe that I can deal with all the problems I may encounter there.

  2. ayse yılmaz said that:
1)the students like to be a student in usa.for linxi from china, american schools offer more opportunities and more practice.for krishna, the american school provides creavity and team work which is important for her.because she like to work with a team.
2)they decide to study in usa.linxi says that in china there is a system which provides information about the schools in abroad.and you can choose one of them.she chose to study in usa.
3)of course there are some differences between the usa and their countries.for example,in arata's country they have to take an entrance exam and they have to choose a major.once they enter the college they can't change it.but in usa you can do it.it is a big difference.
and krishna says the education system in her country is strict.it gives books.it has no flexiblity.but in usa the system is flexiblity.
4)the international students have to pay about 30.000 dollar for a year.but it can change according to your major program.
5)in fact like the other students they had some difficulties.at first.for example, linxi had some comunication problems.and krishna says I had culture shock but it is normal.arata is lucky.because he went different schools in different countiries so he was used to this more easily than linxi and krishna.
6)of course they had culture shock.because they, three, entered a new environment.like them,if Igo there, most probably I will have the same problems.because there are a lot of differences between turkish culture and american culture.and the usa is very far from turkey.so I will miss my family,my friends...but I know I will not be alone.every year most students go abroad for education.so I can manage this by myself.

  6. 1)In general all students are interesting in american education system. They think that they have more opportunities than they have in their home country. For example,in USA they have more practice and also work with a team.
2)Each of students have their own reasons to have education in USA.For example,Krishra chose the USA due to its creative environment and the use of team work in education.
3)There are some differences between the USA and theire home country. For example in China, linxi say that they have to hang the laundry outside. She adds that they drink coffee a lot. Also she claims that even in winter the Americans can wear shorts, which makes her astonished.
4)The international students have to pay about 30.000 dollar for a year,But it depands on your major program.
5)Like all of foreign students they also have difficulties with culture and language which is normal for them.
6)Of course they had culture shock. As i am foreign student, when i came tu turkey i also had culture shock i mean that meet with different people different opinion different language and different culture.I had lots of difficulties like homesick and loneless and...but after you find friends and start to studying you will be busy and you will not have any time to think about these difficulties.

  7. BEING AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT IN THE USA
    1) The students are glad to be a student in USA. Krishna thinks that American schools provides group work and improve creativity. The reason for Linxi is the opportunities and practices which those schools provide her.
    2) In their country ,education system is stricter and lessons are hard but, in the USA, they can find more opportunities and have more flexible about their lessons. Krishra chose the USA because of the opportunity of creativity and group work.
    3) There are some differences between their countries and USA. Education system is harder in their country and they can find more opportunity to develop themselves. In Arata’s country students should have take a major and when choose one, they can continue with it. It is a strict rule.
    4) It is about 30.00 dollar in a year but it changes according to which course they had.
    5) Like any other students they have some difficulties to adopt the environment. Linxi had some communication problems. Krishra thinks that she had a culture shock and she finds it normal. Arata studied high school in another country so Arata is accustomed to be international student and it is a chance of him, but culture is a problem for also him.
    6) As I mention above they had culture shock. I think every foreign student have some culture shock, it is normal. For them, culture shock is a process people have experienced and feel confused when they go another country. I sometimes think to go USA for education because I am in English Language Teaching department and the best way to learn English is to live a country whose citizens speak English. Another point is that USA give students more opportunity to improve themselves and more chance to have academic career. If I can go USA, I probably experience similar process to be accustomed there and some problems, but nothing is impossible. I think these problems can be coped with.

  8. BEING AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

1.According to Linxi,it would have been more difficult to study the major in China which she wanted to take so she preferred to study in USA rather than China. And the other beneficial side according to her is that American schools offer more opportunities to practice. When it comes to Krishna,American education system is based on creativity and teamwork, these features caught her interest to go to America. She thought that this system would meet the expectations of her and that would be advantageous for her.

2.Krishna thinks that American education system is flexible. She can do much more things. All the students are affected by the opportunities that are provided in American education system. For example:creative environment, teamworks, opportunity to practice, flexible system...

3.Arata says that His home country's education system is quite different compared to America's.In his country they can take one major. After they choose their major, they have no possibility to change it anymore but there isnt any rule like this in America.A difference in daily life that is told by Linxi is that They just hang their clothes out in China but in America dry machines are used and she likes this.

4.Tuition is about 30.000 dollars for a year. But Arata says that it can change according to the major you take, which university you attend and in which place you will stay.

5.Linxi had trouble in communicating with others. There are some habits which are found interesting and strange by the students. It is very advantageous to go to highschool in different countries for Arata.Compared to Linxi and Krishna,he went through the process of adaptation more easily.

6.All of them had a culture shock,it was unavoidablle for them.Culture shock is entering a new life style. When they experienced this situation, they felt confused and surprised because they were seeing different things which they didnt encounter in their original life.
I have never thought of going to USA,my dream is Sweden,i am interested in Stockholm i would like to see there so much.I want to join Erasmus program to go there in my university life if the conditions are possible.Being a student in America,Sweden or an another country doesnt matter wherever you go,you will have the same troubles and you will have a culture shock.Despite all the difficulties,i think it is worth to learn a new culture and live in a foreign country.

  9. 1)All students are pleased with being student in US. Krisha thinks that the system in US. deals with the creavity and team work.Linxi thinks that taking a major in chine is too hard to accomplish. America suggests more opportunities for practice.
2)Krisha chose the US. for her education in order to existin a creative environment and attend the team work in education. Briefly, their education system in their country is less flexible and doesn't give such facilities.
3)Linxi liked the idea of drying machine in the US. Arata have to take an entrance exam and choose a major program in their country. Then they have to maintain studiying it.According to krisha, their education system in her country is very hard and strict but the system in the US. is more flexible.
4)International students have to pay approximately 30.00 dollar in per year for beign student in US.However, it may alter according to which program they have.
5)Generally they had cultural difficulties. They trouble with communication, habits, adjustment to a new environment. But Arata didn't have difficulties as many as Linxi and Krisha because he already went to high school in another country.Yet,as Linxi and Krisha, he had some difficulties in culture.
6)Absulately they had cultural shock. What cultural shock for them is the difficulty they have adjusting to a new culture that differs markedly from their own.I m sure that if ı went to USA.,I would have same difficulties and maybe ı would live more challenges than they do. if ı were them, ı would trouble with especially communication to other people because ı m being very embarrassed while ı am talking to someone in English but ı believe I will overcome this by practice. In addition, ı don't think that ı could be accustomed to US. cuisine:S because ı am loving Turkish cuisine:)

  10. 1)Krishna thought that American schools are more different than Europe.American education system is based on creativity and team work. She liked them.Linxi thought that American schools offer more practical than China.
2)Linxi had to choose some certain schools for her major in China.Krishna liked American schools' flexibility so she could do much more things besides study for her degree.Arata is glad to choose his major he wanted. All of them decide to go to the USA because of flexibility of choosing their major.
3)People in Arata's country avoid direct communication so Arata found easier communicating with American people.Linxi liked drying machine and she puzzled that American people wear shorts in winter.Krishna created new goals. This was priceless for her.
4)It is about 30.000 dolar for a year but according to Arata,it can change from which department you study to where you stay.
5)Linxi had difficulties to comminicate with others.Arata is a bit lucky as he has studied different places. They had cultural shock.
6)Yes,they have.Cultural shock is a process that people going abroad experience until they adapt to new environment.Surely i want to go abroad to improve my speaking skills and i want to experience living in different place.I believe that this will be useful for me.I know I will have cultural shock even I have had shock in Ankara.

  11. Being A International Student
    1) Every students has many different reasons to choose education in the USA. For example; Linxi says her major is hard to take in China and USA education system provides students more practice opportunies. To Krishna, creativity and teamwork are so important things in the education and she thinks USA education system is basicly built on these criterion.

    2) Many reasons affected their decisions. Flexible education system was one of them. Also, Krishna chose USA because of opportunity of creativity and teamwork.

    3) Linxi likes drying machine idea. She says in her country, people have to hang their clothes outside and she noticed that American people drink coffee a lot. Beside; people can wear shorts in USA even in winter which Linxi is not used to. To Krishna; USA education systm is more flexible than her country. In her country, they give you your books and you have to study those books but in USA you can do something else in addition to your major. She says she had new aims here and this is the best thing she got in USA. To Arata, he likes class size here. In USA, class size is small, so; people can communicate with each other more easily. In his country, they have to take an entrance exam. According to this exam, you have to choose one major. After you choose this major, you cannot change it.

    4) They say it costs about 30.000 dollar for a year. But Arata says it depends on your major and the place you stay.

    5) Like many international students, they have some difficulties too. For example; Linxi says when I first came here, I was like in a glass bottle, I can`t speak and I can`t hear but in time, she got used to language. Krisha says everybody has culture shock , this is quite normal and she had too. Arata was luck because he had been different countries before he came to USA.

    6) They had culture shock and I think it is normal. When I came Ankara, I had some difficulties in my country. I think most of our department students think of going foreign country to improve language skill and learn new cultures. I am planning to go to a foreign country and I know I will have culture shock and some difficulties with getting used to new culture. But, like everybody, I will manage to live there for a while.

  13. BEING AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

1)Linxi thinks that now she knows about American culture much better and can compare it with her own culture to see differences. What Krishna finds most beneficial in the USA is experiences that she had during study life.

2)Linxi thinks she would have to get higher grades for her major in China and as her major requires more practice than any other major and schools in the USA gives that opportunity ,it is better for her to study in the USA.Krishna chose to study in the USA because American education system is based on team-work and creativity which she prefers.Arata chose to study in America because American education system is more flexible than Japan.

3)Arata finds cummunicating with people in the USA easier than communicating with people in Japan and he likes it because he can express himself easier. The other thing which is different than Japanese education system is university entrance exams.Krishna finds European education system very strict but in America you can do such things beside your degree.Linxi thinks American towns are smaller and more quite than Chinese towns which she likes. She thinks it it is very strange that even in winter people wear shorts though it is very cold. And she finds drying machines very interesting as they dont
    have them in China.

4)The cost is approximately 30.000 $ a year while Arata thinks it totally depends on your major and life style you have.

5)Krishna says she had a culture chock which is a normal thing.Arata says he didnt have much difficulties as he studied in england before when he was in high school.

6)They have when the first went to America. For example Arata was impressed how people do not get empressed easily.

Actually yes i have thought about going to the USA for my education.I tought it would be good for me to study there by learning english in its own nature but then it came to my mind that I dont even know very well about my own culture,
my own country and its problems and so on.Because i was just an high school student who has just graduated and did not not know much about her own culture and university is the best place to learn about my culture, new people and new ideas. To conclude it was a bad idea to go abroad without knowing enough about my own country. So i changed my mind.

  14. 1-Linxi thinks that there are a few certain schools for her major in China and it’s really hard to get in them. And also there are more opportunities to practice in American schools. Krishna likes creativity and team work which American education system offered. With studying abroad, they think that they have gained a lot of experiences and known USA culture better. And also they have put news aims to their life thanks to some influences they get from their university and new people they met.
2- Linxi decided to go to abroad thanks to some programs which provide information about the schools. Krishna consulted her grandfather who lives in USA for a long time.
3- Arata says that in their country, students have to choose a major and they can’t change it. Krishna finds their education system very strict and in USA it is more flexible .So they can do a lot of things besides studying their major. About daily life, Arata thinks that thanks to the small class sizes at university he can communicate with others easily and they support him
4-Housing, airplane fees, bills are some of major issues about financial side. Moreover, it depends on which department you choose.
5-They were miles away from their countries and they experienced some difficulties such as adjusting to environment and culture which were alien to them at first .But they got used to their new lives later.
6-Of course, they have experienced culture shock and couldn’t get accustomed to the differences firstly. They have come across with certain behaviors which are unfamiliar to them. For example in USA , some people wear shorts in winter, burp without feeling embarrassed or use dry machines instead of hanging their clothes outside. In addition, Arata finds the size of chips and drinks different.
7- To me, going abroad for education is really difficult. I don’t want to study in an environment which is quite different from my culture .and also I miss my county and family. Instead, I want to go abroad for a short time. Thanks to some programs like Erasmus, I want to go abroad for a short period and learn about the education system and culture of the country.

  15. Being an international student and studying in your own country bring about completely different experiences to a person. First of all, an international student gains much more experience than a national student. He/she faces with so many kinds of situations from the worst to the best. For example, an international student experiences a culture shock whereas a national student does not, but an international student can have the chance to know other cultures better. While studying, a national student can not have this chance because he/she should be struggling with his/her homeworks and exams. An international student also have more opportunities like knowing the system of other countries, having experiences in different parts of the world and in different companies by doing internship. Secondly, international students can use their practical skills better in their lives. For instance, they use their English in their daily routine, so they improve this skill with time easily while a national student does not have a condition to communicate in English in his/her own country. By using their practical skills like this, they also gain more self-confidence which is necessary for a person to broaden himself/herself. The more you have self-confidence, the more probability to succeed. However, these all do not mean that being an international student has only benefits. It also has some disadvantages like cost and culture shock. Every international student experiences any level of culture shock but if they can't recover from it, it would reflect on their success and no student in the world wants to fail. Also, studying in abroad is not suitable for students of any level of economical class. It is expensive and costs like thousands dollars while a national student(no matter it a little bit depends on the city in which he/she studies) can go with some money not like thousands dollars. In conclusion, being an international student and a national student mean totally different concepts.

  16. being an international student in usa.
    1. according to the video, foreign students in usa linxi du, krisha oedjaghiz and arata doba more practising, basement on creativity and team works are the main benefits of getting an education in us. in addition linxi du loves american culture and she is very happy that she has an opportunity learning more about this culture. similarly arato doba said that people in usa are very different from his own countries' in a way that americans are outgoing and sociable. finally, krisha oedjaghiz said that a big benefit she has gained from studying in united states is her experiences, she thinks it is a great goal she has created.
2.a)first of all they really want to study in usa. and secondly some factors were the reason for getting an education in us. for example linxi came with school program, krisha's uncle's friend advised them and arota's parents migration were the factors which affected their study in usa.2.b)linxi loves dry machines which they do not use in china. krisha said that teachers in her country are very strict besides it in america people are flexible with each other.3. approximetely studying in united states costs 30-40000 $ a year. however linxi, krisha and arota think that the money they spent for their education is not important.4. in fact they did not have so much difficulties, but cultural shock is as naturally was the main difficulty they have opposed.5. yes i have several plans such as doing my master degree in usa or working there as an english teacher. i know that it will be a bit difficult, but my hope will not die:)))

2.They decided to go to the USA for education because of some reasons.Linxi came to the USA thanks to a program. When Krishna was looking for university in America, she learned that a friend of her grandfather graduated from ONU.And that friend advised her to go to ONU.
3.Students told about some differencies between their home country and the US.Arata said that his own country’s education was different from the US.In his country, students have to choose their major and can’t change it.He liked American people who are outgoing, sociable.Since people in his country aren’t so.And he liked classes which were small. In these classes, communication with others is easy.Krishna said education was very strict in her country. But in the US education is more flexible. Thus she liked the US education.Because she thought she can do much more things than studying for her degree. She said she had so much experiences. As a result she had created new goals in her life.Linxi liked where she went.It is a small and very quiet town. And she liked the spring there.

  20. 1.because US have more opportunities to practise.there is creativity and teamwork there and good environment.

2.because there are agencies at China and they help students find a school which they wanna go.providing information about the school they can choose whatever they want.It is one of them's reason.other's is that her grandfaher was living at US.He has a friend who graduated from ONU.He recommended him to put her in since it is a small university.it is easier to get accustomed to there.

3.In China, you have to choose a major .once you can enter the college, you cannot change your major. Moreover, China is strict. They give your books. They give your planning and tell you figure out it.You cannot make mistakes.America is a little bit flexible. You can do much more things besides it than just studying for your degree.

4.it is approximately 30.000dollars of course it depends on which department you study in ,your room.

5.Americans are diffrent from Chinese.Americans are social, outgoing.while chinese emphasize on indirect communication, americans use direct one.You have to tell what you think.

6.Cultural shock refers to anxiety of feelings, surprise.disorientaiton, confusion in different or unknown cultural or social environment such as a foreign country. You don't know what is appropiate what is not.I've thought of going to the US for education because of my foreign language.I want to learn their pronounciation, idioms, informal language etc very well.If I go there,I think that I might not like their foods,I miss my country.I also axperience cultural shock

  21. 1)Linsa thinks that she knows American culture better.Arata likes outgoing and sociable people and in his hometown communication is harder than in US.Experiences is the most beneficial thing in the US.
2)Linsa said that taking her major in China requires to get higher scores and there are some certain schools offering her major so getting in them is really hard. And American schools have more opportunities to practise that Linsa have to much practise.American education systembase on creativity and teamwork that Krishna prefers.
3)Arata's hometown education is different than in US compared to taking exams, chose and change major. In Krishna's hometown education is very strict. But in US is so flexible that you can much more things besides chosing it studying for your degree.Acording to Arata thanks to small class size at university he can communicate easily with faculty members and it supports him.
4)The cost is around 30 or 40 thousands $ for a year and acording to Arata it can change acording to which your department or where you stay.
5)Yes,they have experienced culture shock. For Linsa wearing to short in winter, using dry machine are cultere shock. And for Arata burbing without embarressed, size of chips and drinks are different from his hometown.Acording to Krishna culture shock is a naturel.Sometimes I think to go USA for education because as a language student I have to improve my speaking and the best way for doing this is going to abroad. Most probably I will have the same problem. But if we want to go abroad,we can deal with all difficulties.

  23. BEING AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT IN USA

    1) We can see that three of the students are happy with their education in USA. For Linxi American schools provides more opportunities and the all practices reaaly help them, for Krishna American education systems very different from their system and the big difference is that American education system is based on creativity and team work which she really likes to do. Kishna says the biggest benefit is the new goal she has created in her life.

    2) the reasons for deciding to go to the USA for education are different for each student even if they close. For example for Linxi in Chine she had to have high scores and only some certain schools offer the major she wants. For Krishna Ohio is small university and easier to get used to new culture than she coming from. And for the last student, he has already got used to study in foreing country.

    3) There are some differences for all students in good way; for Linxi it is kind of a small town and really quite, and for Krishna American education system is more flexible than their strict education system. Arata likes people because they are different from his own country, in his own country people emphasize on indirect communication and they have to read people's minds but in USA they tell what they think it is easier. And small class size are good for communation with faculty members. Linxi sees American culture better, they uses dry machines in America but in China they don't, just hang clothes outside.

4)It is about 30.000 $, For Krishna it includes boarding, meal plan and Arata says that it depends on which department you study, housing and the meals.

    5) Linxi had difficulty in communication, then she got used to language. Krishna says everybody has culture shock , this is quite normal and she had too. Arata don't have problems because he get used to study in foreign contries.

    6) They have experienced cultural shock when they went to America first because it is a process people have experienced and feel confused when they go another country. Arata says they don't get embrassed easily, linxi had problems with language and Krisna had some problems, too.

    7) I have cultural shock when I came to METU, but it is not as much as international students because I didn't change my country, only city. And, of course I have got used to both Ankara and METU atmosphere

  24. 1. As Linxi Du, the benefit of studying in USA is having more opportunity to practice. As Krishna, creative environment and opportunity for teamwork captured her interest.
    2. Linxi Du says that there is agencies which give information about universities in China. These agencies helped her to choose university. Krishna’s grandfather is living for 20 years in USA so she approached him. Her grandfather had a friend who graduated from Ohio University. His friend suggested to study in this university.
    3. In Arata’s country, education system is very different from USA. In this system, when you chose a major, you can’t change it. In Krishna’s country, education system is very strict. It is straight ahead: Teachers give books and plan. Although you can get help, it is still strict. In USA, it is more flexible. You can do much more things besides studying. As Arata, small classes are more advantageous because you can more easily communicate.
    4. Cost of university changes as which department you choose. But it is about 30.000 dollars. Also internationalstudents pay appliying fee.
    5. Linxi Du had difficulty in communication. But later she accustomed to it. Arata was more lucky because he lived in different countries. They had difficulty in adjusting to new environment. But they didn’t experence only difficulties. For example, Krishna has a lot of experience. They are priceless for her. She has a new goal in her life since she came to USA. She thinks that influences of college and new environmet are the biggest benefits of coming USA and she is not sure whether she would have a new goal if she didn’t come to America.
    6. They all had culture shock. Linxi shocked when she saw the people who wore shorts in winter. Krishna thinks that culture shock is normal and everybody can experience it. Arata think american people are outgoing, sociable but in his country people use indirect speakingand they have toguess peopleS mind. You have to care what you say. I think that is the one of reasons he like USA.
I think of going USA for education. I think it can help me to improve my speaking and listening skills. I couldn’t easily adopt to university life in my home country so adjusting to comletely different country will be too hard for me. I will have to adjust to new culture, new people new cuisine. Nevertheless I will gain a lot of experience and I will treasure them.

  25. 1)All of them think that studying in the USA is more beneficial. For example, Linxi says that she knows American culture better because she studies in the USA.Krishna says she has a new goal and thinks if she had not come to USA,she mould not have such a goal.

2)Linxi says that she decided to come to the USA because if she wants to take her major in China, she has to get high scores. And American schools offers more opportunities to practise.Krishna says American education is based on creativity and team work which she really likes to do.
3)Arata thinks that his own country's education system is very different. You have to take an entrance exam and choose a major and you can not change it.Furthermore,he says he likes classes in the USA because they are smaller so communication with others is easier.Krishna says her own country's education system is very strict but American education system is more flexible. For example, you can do much more thing besides your major in the USA.

4)Arata says tuition depends on which department you study. But all of them say it approximately costs 30.000 dollars.

5)Linxi had difficulty in communication. But Arata says he gets used to study in other countries because he studied high school in another country.

6)All of them had culture shock,of course.Culture shock refers to have some difficulties in adjusting a new culture which is different from their own.
Yes,of course I thought. But I did not think it must be the USA,it can be another country.Because living in another country whichever it is is completely different experience. But being in another country is really difficult. You will see different culture, different people. And you will have difficulty in adjusting these. So I am little hesitant.

  26. BEING AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT
In the video the students are talking about why they chose to study in America and what ways it is different from their own countries. Linxi, the girl coming from China, says that she loves her major but if she were in her own country she would have to get high scores and study in certain schools. In Turkey , the education system is just like this. For example to be a doctor we are supposed to study without stopping. We have to go to the medical schools which want the highest points. But in American schools more opportunities are offered. You can practise your major easily which is very good for you.And as Krishna says, the education system in America is based on creativity and team work so learning environment is more enjoyable. That’s why the students prefer America to get their degrees.
About the differencies in education systems , Arata says that in his country, like in Turkey, you have to choose a major only one major which is very bad. That’s once you choose a major in high school, you cannot change it in college.Krishna’s dislike is that she finds the education system in her own country very strict. She thinks it is nothing but going straight ahead. The system gives you books, plans, etc. and the only thing you have to do is to memorize them.According to her ,there is much more flexibility in USA. There, you can do much more things besides just studying for your degrees.
The students talking in the video have different reasons as to why they like the environment of ONU.Linxi likes the life there because it is quiet and more like a town. Arata loves ONU as it has small classsites in which it is easy to communicate with other faculty members.
Maybe one of the most important issue the students abroad worry about is the financial problems. According to the students in the video , the cost of studying abroad depends on which department you study ; the meals and accommodation conditions you prefer. But as Krishna says approximately 34.000 dolars is spent for boarding, eating, department etc.
Linxi thinks that now she knows American culture better. For example, she has found some differencies between China and America like using driying machines instead of hanging clothes out.Arata says that he likes American people because they are more outgoing and sociable than the ones in his own country. He states that in Japan they emphasize on indirect communication. That’s they have to read each other’s minds to understand what they think. But in USA you have to tell what you think which is much easier.According to Krishna, the biggest benefit of being an international student is experience. She says that she has got so many influences from the college, American culture, the people she has met, the situations she has faced that she has created a new goal in life.
In adaptation process you can have a culture shock of course. It is very natural to feel yourself surprised and in confusion when you see something different in an unknown culture or environment.Every international student has a culture shock in some ways. For example, Linxi was very surprised when she saw people wearing summer clothes in winter. She says, studying abroad is good but when she first came to America, she felt herself in a giant glass bottle. In this bottle she could see, speak, hear but never touch anything. I can understand her because when i first went abroad i felt just like this. Around me an unknown language was spoken.I was away from my family, country and habits. Now i don’t know how i will feel if i go to to USA to study. But it sounds me perfect. As i want to learn English where everybody speak it. So if i have an opportunity to go there, why don’t i consider it?

  27. VIDEO REFLECTION

    1) According to Krishna in USA their work is a kind of teamwork, which she personally very likes to do. For Linxi, American schools offer more opportunities to practice than Ohio in which one has to get very high scores to be major. Both educationally and personally, studying in the US is good for them.

    2) In China, there are some programs providing information about schools in abroad and you can choose what do you want. Thus, Linxi could go to the US. Krishna has a grandfather who has been living there for 22 years and one of his friends graduated from Ohio advised her to go there.

    3) America seems to Arata quite different. First, there are smaller classes in which communication among other members of ONU is easy. And in his own country, students can take one major program at once which is unlike to America .Secondly, according to Arata’s observations, Americans re more outgoing and social. Krishna likes the flexibility of Ohio’s education system. To her, one can do much more things besides studying his degree. For these reasons now she has a new goal in her life. For Linxi, one of the differences is the using of dry machines. In China, her home country, they put out line out to dry, so this is unfamiliar to her. Generally, they like American culture.

4)To study in the US, you need to pay for about 30.000 dollars per year. But it can change according to one’s school, lesson terms etc.

5)Americans are used to wear short even in winter or drinking too much coffee which are different to them.

6)Of course they have. At the beginning they felt confused and surprised. But according to Krishna it is quite normal to feel like that. Because it is totally an unknown place for them. Once, I had a thought about going abroad and even studying in Canada. I made some researches and liked Toronto University very much. The reason why I wanted Canada rather than America is that Canada is less crowded and like a world just for students. It is also easier to make ends meet than America. These are good sides of America. There are also challenges of being at north. Coldness is a big problem for me. Maybe it would be great to study abroad but my university METU is an international association and I’m so happy.
